I'm back! Sorry it's taken me so long to update ... the past few weeks have been so insane that I don't even know where to begin. We've been through every conceivable emotion, slept fairly little for days at a time (but then made up for it by sleeping tons on the honeymoon), and basically just been through a lot. I'm working on an epic summary of everything wedding-related (which will likely only be interesting to me ... oh well), but I think for now I'm just going to sum things up in a few key points.
1. Wedding. It really went swimmingly! No major wedding-related disasters - we came close when we couldn't figure out how to make the (rented-at-the-last-minute) PA system work in the ballroom, but Nate jumped in and saved the day. Everything else was amazing - so indescribably great to see everyone who made the trip, insane to have such a Herald-reunion vibe, and, of course, the most amazing party was marrying my favorite guy. Photos are being posted here if you're interested.
2. Honeymoon. Door County was spectacular! Our hotel room was gorgeous and had a balcony with a water view, a ginormous whirlpool, and a light-switch-controlled fireplace. It was quiet, the weather was perfect, I didn't get a terrible sunburn, and it was just exactly what we needed after our weekend of craziness. The second half of our honeymoon was Lollapalooza, which was also great. My personal favorites were Lupe Fiasco, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, and Flogging Molly. Tiring, hot and crowded, but totally worth it to see Radiohead play "Fake Plastic Trees" with fireworks over the Field Museum in the background.
3. Sad news. Paul's grandma unfortunately suffered a heart attack the night before the wedding, and underwent an emergency angioplasty. She had complications from the surgery and ended up passing away the Tuesday after the wedding. I'm glad we were able to visit her in the hospital before driving up to Door County so we could tell her about the wedding and show her our rings. She was so happy for us. It's kind of unbelievable that she went downhill so fast - she was at the rehearsal dinner looking great, and gave a beautiful toast - I can't believe how quickly everything happened. Nana was really a terrific lady and we will miss her terribly.
4. Gift-related ridiculousness. We absolutely cannot believe some of the gifts we received. The first thing we did when we got to Door County was put on Anchorman and open all of our cards - INSANE amounts of money! We used only the cash gifts we received throughout our whole honeymoon, and we were able to pay for all our food, souvenirs, etc. for the whole week and still had some left over. We opened all our gifts at Paul's parents' place after the honeymoon, and we got some truly insane presents, too. I cannot believe the generosity of our friends and family - truly mindblowing.
5. Becoming a Mrs. I was in the shower one morning in Door County, and housekeeping came in to do some cleaning. I heard Paul in the living room say, "My wife is in the shower, so you don't need to worry about cleaning the bathroom." That was the first time I heard "wife" - and I just broke out into a big smile. It feels so great to be married, and to be able to call him my husband. I'm so glad we did this!
Epic update coming soon.
